WILL THOMAS BAGS LATE MODEL VICTORY AS SCOTT BAYLE WINS SECOND STRAIGHT IN DODGE SPORTMOD
North East, PA: Advance Auto Parts Night/USG/Driver Sponsor Appreciation Night at the Races saw a huge crowd with nearly 5,000 fans in attendance. Fans enjoyed an on-track autograph session with all of the drivers and great event entertainment.
Immediately following pre-race ceremonies, the Advance Auto Parts Street Stocks took to the track with Charles Houser taking the pole. Eric Hadley quickly took first place from Charles Houser on the first lap coming from second place. Hadley led the first twenty laps and built a healthy lead, but then lost a position battle with Jay Mudra on lap twenty one. Mudra led the last five laps and won the race only to be disqualified at the end of the night after failing post race tech. The Advance Auto Parts Street Stocks had a caution free race.
The next division to take the track was the Boyer RV Bandoleros. Brody Wood from Corry, PA led the Bandoleros to take the green flag but was passed on the first lap by Brandon DeBrakeleer. DeBrakeleer quickly lost his first place position to Nathan Rodgers. Rogers led the majority of the race and finished in first place. The race was only interrupted by one caution on lap nine by #81 Michael Walker who spun out in turn four. Finishing second was Nathan Carlson and third Brandon DeBrakeleer.
The newest division to Lake Erie Speedway, the Dodge Sportmods, had a challenging race resulting in four cautions. Scott Bayle started tenth but moved his way to first place by lap five passing Terry Akerly on the inside. One of the bigger cautions happened on lap eleven off of turn four when Carter Mook made contact with Dale Murdock, causing Murdock to spin. Bayle struggled with Eric McCray for the lead for several laps but finished first with Terry Akerly in second and Dave McAvoy in third. This was Scott Bayle’s second straight win at Lake Erie Speedway this season.
The Career Concepts Legends had a very clean race with no cautions and only a few lead changes. Justin Hines started in the tenth position, took the lead on lap ten, and led the remaining fifteen laps to record his second win at Lake Erie Speedway this season. Bob McQuiston and James-Paul Weisser also led a few laps in the race. Steve Sunday finished second while Weisser finished third.
The crowd eagerly awaited the start of the Plyler Overhead Door Late Models that showcased twenty-five cars for the feature. Taking the pole and the race was Will Thomas of Sharpsville, PA who led laps one through eleven and thirteen through forty. Norm Taylor led lap twelve. With seven cautions Thomas and the other drivers had quite a challenging race. With most cautions resulting from spin outs, including a spin out on lap eleven with Scott Nurmi and Preston Walker collided off of turn four. Finishing the race in second was George Skora III and finishing third was Jimmy Weller.
The last division to race was the Jensens Target Collision Compacts. Like the Legends, the Compacts had a very clean race with no cautions and no lead changes. Ricky Wright started on the pole and led all fifteen laps to take the checkered flag. Second place went to Jonathan Breads and third to Julie McAvoy.
The night ended with an awesome fireworks show sponsored by Aaron’s.
