HOLLAND PRACTICE DAY CUT SHORT BY RAIN; HOLIDAY DOUBLE HEADER TO OPEN 2008 SEASON
Holland, NY: The scheduled practice day at the Holland NASCAR Motorsports Complex
was curtailed by on-again/off-again showers moving through the Western
New York area on Saturday afternoon. A few cars took slow laps around
the oval in the hopes of drying off the track, but there was never an
opportunity for full speed practice laps, and the practice session was cut short at
2:30 pm.
The iffy weather conditions resulted in a light turn-out of competitors
hoping to test and tune their racers before the Memorial Day weekend
season opener. There is an additional practice session scheduled for
Thursday evening, May 22; pit gates will open at 5:00 pm with on track
practice taking place until dusk.
The Holland NASCAR Motorsports Complex will open for the 49th
consecutive season of racing with two events set for the holiday
weekend. On Saturday, May 24th, Holland will host opening day
featuring the NASCAR Sunoco SST Pro Modifieds, LAMOT Late Models,
Carquest Chargers, Native Pride Pro Fours, and Alliance Auto Recycling
Figure 8 Cars plus the first of five 2008 visits by the Casey’s TQ
Midget Series. The McKinley Mall of Hamburg, NY, as has been
tradition, will sponsor the Saturday night opener. Pit gates will open
at 4:00 pm, grandstand gates at 5:15 pm, with racing getting underway
at 7:15 pm. Adult grandstand general admission is just $10.
On Monday, May 26th, the annual “Faster Pastor” race will be featured,
as clergy from area churches will climb aboard speedway-provided
4-cylinder strictly stock racers in a fund-raiser for the works and
needs of their congregations. Also on the Monday program will be the
season openers for the INEX Legends, the Thiel Motorsports 4-cylinder
Hornets, and the ladies-only Queen Bees. On Monday, pit gates will
open at 3:00, with grandstand gates opening at 4:15. The Faster Pastor
events will begin at 5:15, with the
rest of the racing program following the conclusion of the Faster
Pastor final.
