SPENCER SPEEDWAY REVS UP THEIR WEEKLY SCHEDULE IN 2008
WILLIAMSON, NY: Spencer Speedway officials have placed a tentative 2008 oval track schedule on their website, www.spencerspeedway.org. “The schedule we are showing is pretty much the final schedule we will have in 2008,” commented promoter John White. “We are really excited about this year’s programs.”
Spencer Speedway will again be part of the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series of local speedways. In 2008 there will be four weekly divisions in action: SST Modifieds (35-lap feature), Northeast Modified Lites (15-lap feature), Street Stocks (20-lap feature) and Super Sixes (20-lap feature). Tour-type Modifieds will make special appearances at the track. There are also specials for USAC Ford Focus Midgets, MSA/ISMA winged Supermodifieds and vintage racers.
The 2008 season starts off with the traditional Test & Tune night on Friday, May 9. “This show allows all of the teams to test out their new equipment before the weekly NASCAR points start up,” added White. Round-by-round practice sessions highlight the evening starting at 5:30 p.m.
The Tour-type Modifieds will make six appearances in 2008, and what appearances they are! They will start the year off on Friday, May 16 with a 50-lap feature on tap. On Friday, June 13, they return featuring Twin 25-lappers.
Their third appearance at the track will be on Saturday, July 12, when the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour comes to Spencer, their first appearance at the track since 1994. This race will start at 7 p.m. sharp, coming on a Saturday. Two 25 lap heat races will help line up the 100-lap feature.
The Modifieds return on Friday, August 1 when the Race of Champions will host a 100-lap Modified feature. On Friday, August 22 the Modifieds run a 50 lapper and finally on Friday, September 5 they run Twin 25 lap features.
The winged Supermodifieds have not been at Spencer since July 21, 1989, when Russ Wood won a 50-lapper. They will be returning for a joint MSA/ISMA “Sandusky-Oswego Challenge” points race on Friday, June 6. Spencer will be the first speedway other then Sandusky or Oswego to host a points race in this mini-series. Expect some really fast action that night!
The USAC Ford Focus Midgets return to the fast half mile oval in 2008. They will be on hand on Friday, July 4 and Friday, August 8. Both events will feature 40-lap features for the Midgets.
Extra distance races also dot the schedule for the four weekly divisions. Double point nights also dot the schedule. Racing concludes on Friday, September 5.
Spencer Speedway is a flat half mile asphalt oval, located just fifteen minutes east of Rochester, NY, along Route 104 in the Town of Williamson. Spencer Speedway is the local host for the “NASCAR Nation” in upstate New York.
