JENNERSTOWN WITHDRAWS FROM MAARA CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES

NORTH EAST, PA: Mid-Atlantic Asphalt Racing Alliance (MAARA) officials announced that Jennerstown Speedway has cancelled its 2007 championship series events scheduled for June 16 and Aug. 4.

“Jennerstown Speedway owner Dave Wheeler informed us that he is not willing to abide by the agreed upon MAARA rules and procedures for his races and was cancelling his two scheduled championship events,” said MAARA Executive Director Joe Lewandoski.

“It’s disappointing because Jennerstown was one of the driving forces the past two years in helping to unify car specifications, and create a regional brand to place more emphasis on the weekly racer. But, I guess actions speak louder than words,” he said. “Jennerstown is currently for sale…hopefully at some point they will again participate in a co-operative effort with the other five-member tracks under new ownership.”

Although Jennerstown has withdrawn from the MAARA championship series, competitors will still be able to count points earned during weekly races at the Western Pennsylvania oval toward the overall MAARA championship.

“Since Jennerstown withdrew from the series at such a late date, we felt it was only fair that competitors should still be permitted to count their best eight (8) Jennerstown weekly finishes toward the overall MAARA championship,” said Lewandoski. “It isn’t our intent to punish or penalize Jennerstown drivers for the actions of its owner. MAARA’s mission is to promote and enhance weekly asphalt short-track racing, while bringing the tracks together with common rules and marketing programs.

“MAARA welcomes all Jennerstown drivers that wish to compete in the series,” Lewandoski said. “The best way to demonstrate that fact is by affording Jennerstown competitors the opportunity to still compete for the MAARA championship.”

Competitors may count eight (8) of the following Jennerstown Speedway weekly races toward the MAARA point championship: June 2, 9, 23; July 7, 14, 28; Aug. 11, 18, 25; Sept. 16. MAARA reserves the right to alter and/or delete the above listed dates.
