FORMER LANCASTER MODIFIED AND LATE MODEL DRIVER DAVE MACLEOD PASSES


 
Longtime Lancaster regular Dave MacLeod of Kenmore passed away at age 68 on Monday, January 15 after suffering a massive heart attack last Friday (1/12). Dave campaigned Modified and Late Model #32 rides at Lancaster from the late 1960s through 1995 with his sole victory coming in a September, 1987 Modified event. His final year netted him a 6th place finish in Lancaster Modified points. Dave was an SOS (Southern Ontario Sprint) owner with his #32 in recent years on the dirt circuit. He had a September, 2003 SOS victory at Ohsweken (Canada) with Mark Schulz taking the win in the MacLeod-owned orange #33. He was involved with racing for over 50 years.

He's survived by his wife Joyce, sons Norm (wife Jill) and Tom (wife Jean) who both have competed at Lancaster, five grandchildren and sister-in-law Joann MacLeod. His brother Ron, a former Oswego Supermodified driver, passed away in 1986.

Calling hours were at the C. Mertz & Son Funeral Home, 911 Englewood Ave. (south of Sheridan Dr.) in Buffalo, NY 14223-2394 (Town of Tonawanda) on Tuesday and Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM; their number is (716) 836-2935. Thursday's funeral was held there at 10:30 AM.

 

Donations can be made in his memory to the Spalding Foundation for Injured Drivers, Inc. at 1074 Sulpher Springs Rd., Owego, NY 13827.
