LANCASTER RACEWAY PARK SEASON OPENER SET FOR SUNDAY APRIL 30

The Buffalo NY based asphalt oval will commence with racing on Sunday April 30th with a big Modified 40 lap special event presented by Mighty Taco. Joining the Modifieds will be the SST Sportsman, Super Stocks, Street Stocks and T.Q. Midgets.

The format change to Sunday afternoons for the first of two season openers is expected to bring additional race teams and fans to the early events. Racing will begin at 1:30 in the afternoon with gates opening at 11 am. 2005 Modified champion Tom McGrath will be on hand to defend his championship as will a host of “Lancaster regulars” including eight time Modified champion Sege Fidanza, multi-time feature winner Karl Hehr, three time Modified track champion Billy Putney, the 2006 DeLange Racing Team of young guns Dave Wollaber and Bobby Holmes to name a few. Expected “invaders” include Chuck Hossfeld, Zane Zeiner, T.J. Potrzebowski, Jan Leaty, the Catalanos and Lee Sherwood. With a less rigid schedule this season for the Modifieds, it is expected that many of the invaders will become regular faces at Lancaster.

Five “BIG” Modified events have been announced featuring extended distance racing and increased purses. The first is the season opener, followed by the June 3 Wilbert’s Buick, Budweiser 50, the July 1 Bobcat of Buffalo R.o.C. Firecracker 75, the annual Tommy Druar Memorial/Mr. Modified 50 on Sept 1 and the 18th Annual U.S. Open Sept 22-24. Practice will be held for all competitors on Saturday April 29th with gates opening at 10 am in the pits. Cars are encouraged to register and go through pre-tech before the following day's racing activities begin.

Racing will continue the following Sunday, May 7th with a special 40 lap event for the Late Models with the SST Sportsman, Super Stocks, Street Stocks and T.Q. Midgets before switching to the traditional Saturday nights at 6:30 on May 14.
