SPENCER SPEEDWAY TO RUN TWO 100 LAP NASCAR MODIFIED EVENTS IN 2006

WILLIAMSON, NY: The 2006 Spencer Speedway schedule is starting to take shape. Topping the events on that schedule are two NASCAR Modified 100-lap feature events: Friday, July 7 and Friday, August 4.

Officials at Spencer Speedway revived the tradition of running a 100-lapper last season. In a thrilling duel Terry Cheetham won the event, thrilling the large crowd on hand. He then was disqualified during post race inspection for an illegal carburetor. The 100-lap win was then handed over to second place finisher Buck Catalano.

"Last year's race proved to be one of the highlights on the season," stated co-promoter Del Spencer. "We hope to draw a few more cars for this year's 100's."

Only 19 different drivers have won 100 lappers at Spencer, they include: Richie Evans (11), George Kent (10), Maynard Troyer (8), Roger Treichler (8), Lee Osborne (3), Geoff Bodine (3), Jerry Cook (3), Mike McLaughlin (2), Jimmy Spencer (2), Tommy Druar (2), and Merv Treichler, Dutch Hoag, Dale Merz, Doug Hewitt, Randy Hedger, Jan Leaty, Jeff Fuller, Mike Ewanitsko and Buck Catalano each with one win a piece. The great Richie Evans also won the only two 200-lappers run at the track.

This list of names includes many of the top names in NASCAR Northeast competition over the years. Both Evans and Cook are listed in NASCAR's Greatest 50 drivers. Bodine, McLaughlin, Spencer and Fuller have all gone on to run in the upper echelons of NASCAR competition.

Spencer Speedway has not forgotten about their SST Modified division either. Two 75-lappers have been scheduled for 2006 for that division. Currently they stand on Friday, July 21 and Friday, August 18.

Spencer Speedway is scheduled to open for a practice and timing session on Friday, May 12, with racing to begin the following Friday, May 19.

This year Spencer Speedway will be offering a Four Star weekly program featuring NASCAR Modifieds, SST Modifieds, Street Stocks and the new Super Six divisions.

"We want to start right up front running qualifying heats for the new Super Six division," continued Spencer. "This way they can start to log in some real track time."

Spencer Speedway is NASCAR's Central New York's "Place-to- Race" each, and every Friday evening throughout the summer. The speedway is located just fifteen minutes east of Rochester, NY, along Route 104 in the Town of Williamson.
