WCIS SETS SCHEDULE FOR 2005 SEASON
It won't be long until the roar of engines returns to the bullring in Perry, NY as the Wyoming County International Speedway gets ready to open for the 2005 season. For the second-straight year WCIS will run their weekly stock car racing program on Sunday afternoons at 2:30 PM starting May 8.
The divisions competing weekly will once again be the SST Sportsman, Street Stocks, and the 4-Cylinder Wasps. The SST Sportsman will look to grow this year as the Super Short Track program expands in New York state. Ron Williams will look to defend his track championship from 2004 against the likes of Billy Ray Pruitt, Richard Thomas, Ricky Knapp Jr., and Tom Wiest.
The touring portion of the SST Sportsman series will make two visits to WCIS. The first will be part of WCIS's Labor Day party weekend in the first annual Coca-Cola 100. Inaugural SST series champion Brian Bowen will return to the place where he clinched his title last season along with SST series stars like Patti Pruitt, Wayne Lent, Bobby Holmes, and Jim Pierce.
Several support divisions will also be making appearances throughout the schedule. Late Model Madness will take over six times during the regular season with the first race scheduled for May 29. Tommy Reese will try to defend his 2004 series titles against the best Late Model teams from Western New York and the Southern Tier.
The mighty Modifieds will also return for the Modified Mania series. The Sunoco Race of Champions Modified Tour kicks off the series on June 19 with the "Summer Kickoff 75." The Mods will also return on July 10 and August 14.
Both the Late Models and Modifieds will also be a part of WCIS's annual Coca-Cola Fall Shootout. They will join the SST Sportsman series, Street Stocks, Wasps, and Mini Cups in this two day season finale on October 1 and 2.
The 2005 season begins on Saturday, March 26 with the WCIS driver meeting and registration at the Race Inn on Water St. in Perry starting at 2 PM. For more information on Wyoming County International Speedway log on to
