OLD PHOTOS WANTED FOR BOOK PROJECT

I currently am working on a soft cover book project (old program style) of the history of Lancaster (N.Y.) Speedway, roughly in the 1968-1974 period – the "golden era."

You may know me or have heard of me.  I worked at Lancaster Speedway's "Goodie Stand" (selling programs, photos, Gater News, etc.) for photographer Gordon Reinig from 1973-1974.  I worked for the speedway itself in 1976 as program editor.  After working every Saturday night as a nightclub DJ for a decade, I returned to work at Lancaster from 1988-1990 as a co-announcer and program editor.

I wrote columns (Turn 5) and covered races for Gater News from 1988-1997.  I worked as an associate editor for UMI Publications in Charlotte, N.C., in 1999.  I covered the NASCAR Busch Series for Speedway Scene in 2000 and currently serve as the Public Relations Manager for Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Back to the book project!  When Gordon Reinig retired from photography, he gave me his color and B&W negatives.  I have roughly 400 pictures of Lancaster drivers and their cars.  But a few years were incomplete or missing all together (including 1972, 1973 and 1974).  Those photos and negatives are long gone.

I am asking for your help in locating the photographs listed below.  I all ready have some of the photos/drivers listed below – I am hoping to find better examples of each car.  I know 99.9% of these treasured 3x5 color photos exist – I sold most of 'em when I worked for Gordy and the track!  I want to use as many photos as possible for this pictorial – sort of like those wonderful Gater News pictorials of the '60s and '70s.

If you were around back then or are related to an old-time racer, you know how treasured these photos are.  I would like to use the color photo if at all possible, but B&W will do too.  I would like to buy or borrow whatever you have to contribute.  If you lend me a photo, I will not keep it for more than one week.  I will make a high-resolution scan of it and return it to you via Priority Mail.  If you do not wish to part with your photo(s) – which I can understand – but can scan them (300dpi to 600 dpi) and e-mail them to me, I would appreciate those as well.  If you contribute to the book, you will receive proper credit.  Many generous fans all ready have contributed photos from their collections.

I hope you will take the time to look at this list and see if there is something in your stash that will add to the memories...

Sincerely,

John Bisci
