TIM MANGUS COMES THROUGH ON
HIS SPONSOR'S NIGHT
By Mark Southcott
The two heats for the Visteon Modifieds were claimed
by Kenny Troyer's New York State Fence Co. #6 and Brett Scherrer's Lone Star
Development #8. Kirk Rutherford made his first start of the season in the #04
and Rich Littlefield was piloting the Bill Torrisi #7NY car. 18 Modifieds made
the call for the 6th feature of the season on Wilbert's Buick and GM Parts
night.
Brett Scherrer led from the pole for the first 4 laps before
Tim Mangus who had started in 4th position swept past him for the lead coming
out of turn 4 to complete the 5th lap. The caution was out on lap 7 as
Tom McGrath #12 went spinning in turn 4 and Sege Fidanza #77 was deemed
involved and sent to the back of the pack. Feature winner this season Dave
Wollaber went pitside as well. Lap 8 was set to go off with the order
being Tim Mangus #93, Brett Scherrer #8, Kenny Troyer #6, Billy Putney #88,
and Jim Flanigan #2. Once more the caution would appear for the tangle in turn
1 as Jeff Ulrich #75, Chris Finocchario #8F and Sege Fidanza were involved
with Sege and Chris done for the night. Another restart took place
and by lap 13 Tim Mangus had built a half a straightaway over second
place Scherrer. The next change of position took when Brett got behind the
lapped car of Bill Kosachook #9 entering turn 1 on lap 20. Kenny Troyer took
notice and zipped by for second place and brought Putney along for third.
Brett fell back to 4th and was replace there by Jim Flanigan by lap 23. Mangus
had a whole straighaway advantage over Troyer as lap 24 was completed.
The caution was out again on lap 28 for Jeff Ulrich limping out of turn 4
erasing the huge lead Tim had built. Tim completed the last two laps to take
his second feature of the season and 11th career at Lancaster.
Wilbert's Buick and GM Parts were the sponsor for the
night's racing and have backed Tim's team for many years. Sunoco Race Fuels,
RPM Machine, Peck Collision, Mangus Precision Pumps, and Kennedy and Schum
Attorneys also are on Tim's sponsor list.
