TOM MACLEOD ENDS THE WEEK ON THE WINNING END
By Mark Southcott
Monday night's Tops Late Model feature saw Tom MacLeod #4
fall short on capturing a win. Saturday night would be different
as he gained the lead on lap three, and he would hold off the late charge
of current point leader Joe Carbone #31.
Pole sitter Mike Davis #02 would lead the first two laps
until Tom MacLeod powered by to become the only other leader of the race
after staring fourth. Mark Pennell #18 and John Julicher #09 were looking to
take the lead away at the lap 5 stage. John was overhauled from second place
on lap 16 as Todd Hoddick #99 moved there. Lap 22 brought out a caution for
Darryl McKay's debris, and Mark Pennell hit the foam in turn three but
continued. Point leader entering the evening Bob Weber lost his motor and
Ron Nurmi also retired under the lap 22 caution. Lap 23 saw Joe Carbone
get under Todd Hoddick with a backstretch pass. Joe fell short by a half a
car length to Tom MacLeod as the checkered waved. Joe was after his
second victory in a row, but he gained the most spots in the feature with
seven. Tom's effort is sponsored by Cambria Contracting, Metzinger
Trucking, Alternative Brews, and Englewood Collision. Heats were claimed by
Mark Pennell and Ron Nurmi. Don Irving #33 didn't start the feature after
problems in his heat.
